Encryption Feature Nears Release
Zoho is preparing a major update for its messaging app Arattai. The company intends to roll out the much-awaited end-to-end encryption (E2EE). The testing for this feature is at the final stage. Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu shared this update on X.
Implementation for All Chats
Vembu said the application will implement "Option-2" encryption-also referred to as Arattai Encryption. The setup turns encryption on automatically for all chats. Later, the app will add separate controls for private chats and group chats. He explained that the change requires extensive testing. He also pointed out that the team faced some challenges during testing. Around 6,000 Zoho employees tested the feature. Many issues found during the process have already been resolved.
Further Testing & User Upgrade
Vembu added that the fixes applied to the system are undergoing new tests. If all goes well, users will be given access to the encryption feature. They just have to update the app, he said. The feature does exist in the source code, but isn't enabled yet.
User Reactions
Users have shared their mixed reactions on social media. Some asked whether encryption improves privacy or whether it supports regulatory requirements. Others questioned how the old chats will be handled under the new system. Some suggested promoting the app more widely. Others advised Zoho to avoid rushing the rollout.
