Growing Use of AI Across Indian Enterprises

A recent report by EY-CII states that Indian companies have moved beyond testing artificial intelligence to deploying it in actual business processes. It also says that 47% of companies now run multiple generative AI systems in production. The report, titled The AI Idea of India: Outlook 2026, has insights from representatives of 200 organizations, including public sector units, start-ups, Global Capability Centers, and Indian divisions of multinational firms. Their senior leaders and C-suite executives also shared their views.

Key Findings on AI Adoption and Investment

Most companies continue to limit their budgets for AI and machine learning. Over 95% of the organizations keep spending on AI-ML below 20% of their total IT budget. Simultaneously, Indian organizations keep on expanding practical AI usage.

Although confidence in AI continues to increase, investments remain low. Over 95% of companies still spend less than one-fifth of their IT budgets on AI. Only 4% have crossed that spending level. This trend shows that organizations recognize AI's potential but stay cautious when it comes to large-scale investments.
