India Credited With Saving Sheikh Hasina’s Life, Says Her Son

Statement from Sajib Wazed

Sajib Wazed, the son of Bangladesh's former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, believes that India directly saved his mother's life. He said she could have been subject to an assassination attempt had she remained in Bangladesh. He spoke to the media immediately after the death sentence on his mother was declared.

India’s Role During the Crisis

Mr. Sajib said India was a trusted friend during her most vulnerable time. He further referred to militants who had planned to assassinate Sheikh Hasina if she didn't flee the country. He added that support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi ensured her security. Sheikh Hasina had left Bangladesh on August 5 last year and moved to India, where she has been residing at an undisclosed location in Delhi.

Legal Cases and Tribunal Verdict

Several cases regarding alleged crimes against humanity were filed against her in the country, during her stay in India. After examining these cases, ICT found her guilty and issued a death sentence on Monday.

Concerns over Trial Process

Sajib accused Bangladesh's interim government of not going through legal procedures during the trial. He stressed that the process was not fair and transparent.
