AI Skills Create New Opportunities for GCCs
While job losses in AI remain a concern, a new report from NLB Services indicates that more than 1,800 GCCs operating in the country have created strong demand for AI experts. These hubs currently employ 2.16 million experts. The number may grow 11% over the next year to 2.4 million and then surge to 3.46 million by 2030. This increase opens up space for 1.3 million new experts.
The report also projects 85 to 95 new GCCs to be set up domestically by 2025. Up to 60 of them will be new entities, and the rest will emerge from expansions of existing companies. Sachin Alug, the chief executive of NLB Services, said responsible use of AI will build sustainable value for organizations. This is because AI does not substitute for human skills but enhances them.
Key Points:
- GCC employment may reach 3.46 million by 2030.
- As many as 95 new GCCs may be added by 2025.
- AI-based skills still top the agenda for organizational growth.
Why AI Skills Strengthen GCC Growth
AI and generative AI capabilities assist GCCs in attaining strategic centers for global businesses. These hubs fully integrate across AI-engineering, analytics, and compliance functions. India stands at 2.8, above the US ranking at 2.2 and Germany at 1.9, in terms of AI skills and innovation.
Impact of Tier-2 and Tier-3 Cities on GCC Expansion
By 2030, 39% of GCC employees-about 1.35 million people-could be working in tier-two and tier-three cities. The report estimates cost reduction as follows:
- Expert costs may drop by 20–35%.
- Office maintenance costs can be reduced by 30–50%.
- Employee migration may fall by 10–12%
- Small cities like Visakhapatnam, Coimbatore, Ahmedabad, and Bhubaneswar have emerged as important AI hubs.
Hyderabad's Growing Leadership in GCC Development
Hyderabad now competes head-to-head with Bengaluru, hosting 360 GCCs and providing jobs to 3.10 lakh people. About 70 percent of GCCs in Hyderabad are strongly ready for AI leadership, against 69 percent in Bengaluru.
Hyderabad is emerging as one of the favorite locations for GCCs in pharma, healthcare, and life sciences. The report goes on to say that Hyderabad leads the chart in investments in generative AI skills and automation. Its affordability, vast availability of experts, and good infrastructure are some reasons behind the companies' gravitation towards the city. This year, Hyderabad added 41 new GCCs while Bengaluru added 30.
