RBI Name Used In New Cyber Scam Targeting Mobile Users

Scammers pretend to call from RBI

Now, the name of the Reserve Bank of India is being used by cyber criminals to dupe people. Cyber criminals often pose themselves as callers from banks or financial institutions, but now they are carrying out their nefarious designs in the name of RBI for gaining credibility. They aim at frightening the victims and extorting money. The PIB Fact Check team of the central government warned citizens to remain alert.

Voicemail Threatens Account Block to Create Panic

A voicemail is reaching many mobile users, which says, "Hello, we are speaking from the Reserve Bank of India. We are going to block all your bank accounts in the next two hours due to fraudulent activities in your credit card transactions. Press 9 for more details."

A fact check by PIB confirmed that the message is from scammers. Once users press the number, it gives an opportunity for cyber criminals to trap them out of fear and steal money.

Government Advice for Public Safety

The government advises people to stay cautious when receiving such calls or messages. Any suspicious information related to government activities should be reported to PIB Fact Check.
