US Imposes Sanctions On Iranian Oil, Including Indian Companies

New sanctions by the United States have been issued to restrict Iran's oil exports to countries across the globe. Sanctions have been imposed on a number of companies and individuals linked to the Iranian oil trade, many of whom are from India. The US has said that its sanctions seek to pressure Tehran's military activities economically.

The US Treasury said the revenue generated from Iranian oil is being utilized for financing the military forces of the country. This comes after Iran's loss in a recent 12-day conflict against Israel. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Besant said, "The Treasury has taken steps to prevent Iran from using funds to develop nuclear weapons and support terrorist proxies. Sanctions have been imposed on 17 companies and individuals to increase economic pressure on the country."

Among those listed is India-based TR6 Petro Company; the US maintains that the company imported $8 million worth of oil from different Iranian suppliers between 2024 and 2025. It also lists RN Ship Management and some other Indian individuals. The sanctions against them are because they allegedly helped in the transportation of Iranian oil.

The US has also imposed sanctions on a number of private Iranian airlines, including the biggest private airline in Iran, MaharAir, and its subsidiary Yazd International Airways. According to the Treasury, these airlines have maintained very close relations with the IRGC and are allegedly involved in transporting weapons and personnel to support Iranian groups in Syria and Lebanon.
