New Verification Feature
X has introduced a feature to help users identify fake or misleading accounts: About This Account. It displays several of the key details about the account, including the location from which the account is operated and how many times the username has changed. The goal is to make account information more understandable and verifiable.
Why X Added This Feature
Accounts and bots on X are pretty common, and most of them look very similar in appearance compared to actual accounts. This really complicates the process of finding the real accounts. With this new feature, users will be able to verify if a person posting content is actually operating the account from the country claimed or elsewhere. This helps users verify credibility and avoid misinformation.
Information visible to Users
The feature shows:
- The date the profile joined X
- Location from which the account is managed
- How many times the username has changed.
- The date of the last edit
Whether the user connected to X via Google Play or the Apple App Store
These are crucial details that act as key features in the detection of accounts that repeatedly change their identity and mislead others. Already, such tools are available on similar platforms like Instagram, and X is providing them for more transparency.
