President Murmu extols the Constitution as the cornerstone of the nation

President Draupadi Murmu called the Constitution the cornerstone of India. She characterized it as a guide for nationalist ideas, as well as to overcome the colonial mindsets. She was addressing a program at the Central Hall of the Old Parliament Building (Samvidhan Sadan) on Wednesday to mark Constitution Day. She said the Indian Parliament, being the largest democracy, reflects the aspirations of its people and acts as an example for many countries. She added that the Constitution is a document representing national pride and identity. She released digital versions of the Constitution in Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Bodo, Kashmiri, Odia, and Assamese during the occasion.

Vice President and Speaker Comment on National Spirit and Responsibilities

Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan said that everybody should strive to construct a developed India. He pointed out that no country can become strong without the active participation of its citizens. He said the Indian spirit is on every page of the Constitution. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said the Constitution is a dynamic document and it explains the responsibility of every citizen. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote a letter to the citizens urging them to perform their constitutional duties, which are the bedrock of a strong democracy. He added that his rise from a backward community to leading governments for 24 years reflects the strength given by the Constitution.

Opposition voices concern over attacks on the constitution

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the BJP-RSS were undermining the Constitution and lowering its prestige. He said that the Constitution Day should also be observed as the Constitution Protection Day. Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, urged everyone to pledge to protect the Constitution from attacks.

International Judges Attend Constitution Day Celebrations The Constitution Day celebrations at the Supreme Court were attended by Chief Justices of several countries. Chief Justice of India Justice Suryakant welcomed the guests. Justice Suryakant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi presided over the proceedings. Chief Justices from Bhutan, Kenya, Mauritius, and Sri Lanka, along with senior judges from Kenya, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia, attended the function.
