Shooting Near White House Leads To Review Of Green Card Holders

Security Response After the Incident

A shooting outside the White House sent shockwaves across the United States. The attack at National Guard members stationed near the presidential residence shocked the nation. Following this, former President Donald Trump diverted the attention toward Green Card holders. He remarked that there should be a new scrutiny on Green Card holders from 19 countries.

Security forces arrested a man from Afghanistan in connection with the shooting. After that arrest, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Joseph Edlow announced that Green Card holders from 18 additional countries also face review. He wrote on X that these are steps ordered by the president himself.

Countries Affected by the Review

Previously, Trump had ordered entry limits from 12 countries. These included Afghanistan, Iran, Yemen, Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Libya, Somalia, and Sudan. A partial ban had also been implemented on travelers from seven other countries. There are now reports that the Trump administration intends to review the entry of those from these countries who entered the U.S. under the Biden administration.

Loss of a National Guard Member

One of the National Guard members injured in the shooting has died. Trump announced that Sarah Beckstrom, a female National Guard member, lost her life. The other Guard member remains in critical condition, and officials said he is fighting for survival.
