Trump Announces Suspension Of Immigration From Certain Low-Income Countries

Immigration Policy Changes

  • The United States will permanently suspend immigration coming from low-income countries, announced President Donald Trump. He linked such a decision to a recent shooting that happened close to the White House. The changes have already been initiated by the U.S. government, Trump said.
  • Trump also confirmed that federal benefits and government subsidies to immigrants would be halted. He said these measures are necessary to protect public resources and improve living conditions for U.S. citizens.

Trump's Statement

In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote that while the U.S. is advancing technologically, current immigration policies affect public benefits and the quality of life. He said:

  • Immigration from low-income countries will be permanently suspended.
  • Millions of illegal admissions signed under the Biden administration will be cancelled.
  • Those who do not contribute to the U.S. or respect its laws may be deported.
  • The federal benefits for non-American citizens will cease.
  • Security risks will be debated by the removal of those that threaten public safety.
  • Trump described this as a “regressive immigration policy” intended to protect the nation’s security and public welfare.

Incident Near the White House

The decision comes after a shooting on Wednesday near the White House, where one National Guard member was killed and another injured. The suspect, Rehmanullah Lakanwal, is an Afghan national who served in a CIA-supported Afghan military unit and later immigrated to the U.S.

Future Reviews

Officials will also examine the status of green card holders from 18 countries, including Afghanistan, under a broader reevaluation of immigration policies.
