Trump's Peace Plan Improves After Amendments, Says Zelensky

Zelensky Responds to Updated Proposal

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said an amended version of the US President Donald Trump’s peace plan is better than the original proposal. He said this in a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday. According to him, this updated proposal is indicative of progress in ongoing diplomatic discussions that have been seeking the end of the Russia-Ukraine war.

NATO Concerns and Recent Adjustments

Earlier, NATO members, including Ukraine, expressed their concern that the original formula provided some advantages to Russia, and new amendments were proposed. Zelensky pointed out that the revised version improved the overall framework. He added that active talks continue on how to reach a negotiated end to the conflict.

Diplomatic Movements and Key Priorities

US Ambassador to the Middle East Steve Witkoff is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin today. The context was that Zelensky’s comments drew attention to that. Ukraine has, meanwhile, reiterated any agreement needs to safeguard national sovereignty and have iron-clad security guarantees. Leaders called the talks constructive, but several tough issues were unresolved.

Conflicting Claims in Donetsk

The Kremlin announced that Russian forces had taken control of one strategic area in Donetsk. Zelensky denied this claim, saying Ukrainian forces pushed the Russian troops out of the region. According to Macron, the current diplomatic exchanges represent only an early phase, and during any ceasefire, Kyiv needs to receive reliable security guarantees.

Recent US-Ukraine Discussions

On Sunday, Ukrainian and US officials held a significant meeting focused on advancing the peace plan. Following the talks, Zelensky headed to Paris. The White House said the talks were positive.
