The Growing Competition In AI And OpenAI's Internal Warning

Rapid Growth of AI and Growing Competition

Artificial intelligence is a fast-booming space. Several companies have been regularly unveiling new and advanced AI models. The competition has gone aggressive, especially in the field of AI chatbots. As reported by media like The Wall Street Journal and The Information, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, warned employees about the situation.

OpenAI Identifies a Threat to ChatGPT

Tech firms including Google and Apple are investing big in AI. Recently, the company rolled out an enhanced version of Gemini, its chatbot. For OpenAI, this was a direct challenge to its recent release, ChatGPT. In response, Altman issued an internal memo saying he was invoking "Code Red." His message ordered employees to upgrade ChatGPT without any delay.

Order for Immediate Action by Sam Altman

Altman ordered staff to stop working on all other projects. He told them to work only on making ChatGPT faster, more reliable, and able to answer more things. Otherwise, he said, the product may be in jeopardy. He also suggested that, where needed, the team should redo the work structure to fit with their new priority.

Additional functionality is temporally on hold.

It also froze plans for new features including ads, a shopping agent and a personal assistant called Pulse. Altman asked employees to switch roles between teams if necessary. The moves were aimed at freeing up resources for an all-hands push to improve ChatGPT.
