President Hosts Banquet For Vladimir Putin During India-Russia Meeting

India–Russia Partnership Highlighted at Presidential Banquet

  • President Droupadi Murmu said that India and Russia remain committed to peace and stability. She explained that both countries continue to work together in social and economic development. She hosted a banquet for Russian President Vladimir Putin at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday.
  • She also said that the visit of Putin is important because the India-Russia strategic partnership has completed 25 years. Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders had participated in the function. After attending the banquet, Putin left to Russia.

Dinner Menu Featured Regional Dishes

It included Guchi Doon Chetin, a mushroom and Kashmiri walnut chutney, along with Achari Baigan. It also featured Yellow Dal Tadka and other Indian dishes. Gur Sandesh from Bengal was also served, with Muruku being a popular South Indian snack served to the guests.

Opposition Leaders Not Invited

  • Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi were not invited to the banquet. The Congress expressed sharp dissatisfaction over the issue.
  • Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said that the central government is acting in an undemocratic manner and completely disregarding established protocol. However, an invitation has been extended to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
