Air India Applies Price Limits On Economy Class Tickets

Air India has begun applying government-approved limits on the prices of economy class tickets. The company said these limits have been set in accordance with the recently set guidelines by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, issued on December 6. Air India posted an update on X today.

Air India said that the airline has loaded the new base fares into the reservation system. The price caps would be in place and fully functional within a few hours, it said. Rollout has to be done in a phased manner, said Air India, so all third-party platforms make adjustments without any technical glitches.

The airline further explained that those passengers who, during the transition period, purchase economy class tickets at prices higher than the approved base fare, will be refunded the extra amount they paid.

The move comes after IndiGo failed to comply with the Flight Duty Time Limit rule issued by the DGCA. The crisis has led to hundreds of flights being cancelled, leaving several passengers stranded at airports.
