Russia has come up with a new visa type to attract foreign professionals. Under the programme, experts in different fields can get three-year temporary or permanent residence. Russian President Vladimir Putin recently visited India. According to media reports, ahead of the visit, official sources said that Putin had signed orders related to the new programme.
The government intends to strengthen the mobility scheme between India and Russia. An official announced that the scheme would be effective from April 15 the next year. Visas would be granted to foreigners and their family members who will be professionals of science, economics, industry, education, culture, business and sports. The applicants may also request temporary residence for three years with no necessity to pass the Russian language exam. There is no quota for immigration under this scheme.
This visa program has two steps: first, candidates have to apply through licensed agencies; second, the authorities will check on eligibility. Those selected can apply for temporary or permanent residence in Russia for three years. Also, agency approval is valid for one year.
Foreigners must file applications with immigration authorities. Candidates who are residing in their home countries may also be able to file an application online through agencies. Upon approval, candidates and family members will be issued a one-year business visa, granting entry into Russia. During the pending period for temporary or permanent residence, foreigners and their families are eligible for a work permit. Applications are to be processed within 30 days by immigration authorities.
