PM Modi on Rules and Regulations
For the first time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the crisis created by Indigo airlines. He said that government rules are there to improve systems and not to create problems for people. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju shared this during an NDA party meeting.
Rijiju quoted the Prime Minister as saying: “We should ensure that people do not face any hardship due to the government. Rules and regulations are important, but they must improve the system. They should not harass citizens.” He added, “No law or regulation should bother ordinary people. Laws should not become a burden.”
Indigo Airline Disruptions
More than a week now, IndiGo is going through a severe crisis. Every day, hundreds of flights are either being cancelled or getting delayed. Videos and images of passengers waiting in airports have gone viral. But despite round-the-clock efforts, the flight disruptions continue.
Government Response
The central government is taking the situation seriously. It has formed an inquiry committee to investigate the problem.
Reasons for Flight Disruptions
IndiGo has identified five main factors causing disruptions:
- Minor technical glitches
- Changes in flight schedules
- Adverse weather conditions
- Increased congestion in the aviation system
- Newly implemented ‘Flight Duty Time Limitations Phase II’ (FDTL Phase II) rules
- The new FDTL Phase II rules have been temporarily set aside by authorities to ease the situation.
