Microsoft Announces a Major Investment into AI

Microsoft announced a significant investment in India. The chief executive officer said the company will invest US$ 17.5 billion to help develop AI in India. He met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday and later updated about this on the X platform. "The meeting was an inspiring conversation, filled with India's AI possibilities," Nadella said while posting a picture with the Prime Minister.

Investment Plan Details

Nadella confirmed that the investment will further cement India's ambitions in AI. He said that this amount signifies Microsoft's biggest investment in Asia. The funds will be utilized to further AI infrastructure, training, and skill development. Microsoft added that this will happen over four years: 2026–2029. This new commitment comes over and above the 3 billion dollars announced earlier this January.

Response by Prime Minister Modi

Prime Minister Modi welcomed the investment announcement. He shared a message on X and said that global confidence in India's AI future is increasing. He says the discussion with Satya Nadella was productive. Modi also said he was happy to note that India has become Microsoft's number one investment destination in Asia. He said he hopes India’s youth will use this opportunity and apply AI in creative ways.
