Microsoft Data Center Capacity Growing in India
Microsoft chief executive officer Satya Nadella remains positive over the future data centre capacity planned for India. He also said he spoke about Microsoft's investment plans with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Nadella has just announced investment of $17.5 billion, or about ₹1.58 lakh crore by 2030 to boost India's AI infrastructure and skill development. This has been the third-largest AI-related investment announcement in the country in the last two months.
Nadella announced that Microsoft has opened data centres in Pune, Chennai, and Mumbai. He also announced that the company will open a South India cloud region, which will be located in Hyderabad, by the middle of next year. With India all set to implement the Digital Personal Data Protection policy, Microsoft announced that it intends to offer sovereign public cloud and sovereign private cloud services for Indian customers. According to Nadella, solid cybersecurity and secure digital systems are required to protect the country's growth in the digital economy.
Agreement between Microsoft and the Ministry of Labour
- The Union Ministry of Labour and Employment said it has inked a Statement of Intent with Microsoft to increase employability opportunities for Indian youths, along with skilling in artificial intelligence. It added that the initiative shall help prepare the workforce in tune with global job possibilities.
- The pact was inked in Delhi in the presence of Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Under this agreement, Microsoft will link over 15,000 companies and partners from its global network to the Ministry's National Career Service (NCS) platform.
