Lionel Messi Begins 'GOAT Tour Of India'; 70-Foot Statue Unveiled

Arrival at Kolkata

The Argentinian football star, Lionel Messi has embarked on his 'GOAT Tour of India'. He arrived in Kolkata early on Saturday morning. Messi was accompanied by his Inter Miami teammates, Rodrigo De Paul and Luis Suárez.

Fan Reception

Hundreds of fans thronged the airport to give a warm welcome to Messi. They waved Argentinian flags and chanted his name. For the first time in 14 years, Messi has come to India. Messi and his entire team are staying in a five-star hotel in Kolkata.

Unveiling Statue

Messi participated in the unveiling of his 70-foot statue in Lake Town in a virtual ceremony that was joined by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan Monday morning. Messi could not participate in it for reasons of security.

Events Coming Up in Kolkata

Later, Messi is scheduled to meet former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The meeting will take place at Salt Lake Stadium.

Trip to Hyderabad

Following the Kolkata events, Messi will head to Hyderabad to attend an event at Falaknuma Palace. Later, he will take part in an exhibition football match named the GOAT Cup at Uppal Stadium. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi are also scheduled to take part. The match will start at 7 PM.

Itinerary Across India

Messi's trip to India will last less than 72 hours. He will also visit Mumbai and Delhi. In Mumbai, he will be attending events on December 14 and Delhi on December 15. The tour will conclude with a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.
