Trump Advances Defense Policy To Strengthen U.S.-India Relations

The United States has made efforts to improve ties with the Indian government. This comes as the US seeks to have more influence in its strategic rivalry with China within the Indo-Pacific region. The US President Trump signed the annual defense policy bill. This will facilitate improved ties with the Indian government via the Quad alliance. Trump stated that the signed defense policy act will assist the US homeland in defending itself against both internal and external dangers. This will also facilitate the US defense base. Trump asserted that a strong defense partnership with the Indian government will allow the US a decisive victory over China in the Indo-Pacific region.

The National Defense Authorization Act of 2026, signed by Trump, also has provisions related to strengthening the defense cooperation between the United States and India. The Act is based on the efforts of achieving the common goal of ensuring the Indo-Pacific region is free and open through the Quad. The Act also intends to strengthen U.S. national security interests within the context of the China-related competition strategy. It is estimated that several advantages may arise from implementing this Act between the two nations. These advantages may involve joint military, humanitarian, and maritime cooperation efforts.
