Google has advised some of its staff members not to travel outside the United States because of the delays that are occurring when it comes to the issuance of visas. The moves come after the implementation of the new Social Media Vetting policy by the United States government. The new policy has seen the dates for appointments postponed to October 2026.
Lawyers for Google have warned employees that visa stamping could lead to employees being delayed entry into the US. The company advised employees with US visas not to travel abroad. The company sent an internal email notification to employees about the advisory.
The US started the process of social media screening for H1B and H4 visas from December 15. The process of screening is causing many delays in the schedule of visa appointments.
The Google experts said that visas including F, J, and M might also be impacted. There is no guidance for those who are already abroad in countries other than the United States.
As reported, the US Embassy recently stated that, in light of the new vetting process, all visa interviews are rescheduled for February or March of next year. This, however, was only until the reports were received that the interviews are pushed back further, some of which are rescheduled for October. This is due to the extra time needed for vetting of social media accounts of the applicants.
Such developments have caused confusion for the applicants. Persons who have already gotten employment in the US and have traveled have encountered unexpected challenges.
