Nitin Gadkari Raises Concerns Over Delhi Pollution

Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister, has raised concern over the increasingly polluting conditions in Delhi. Gadkari also revealed that he has developed an allergy within three days of reaching Delhi. The comments were made during the launch of a book in the capital city.

Gadkari explained the link between pollution and transport. He said: "I am here for three days. It is because of this pollution. I have developed an allergy. I am the Transport Minister. The pollution caused by transport is forty percent.” He stressed the need to cut the consumption of fossil fuel. He said: "The resources of the fossil fuel are limited. The amount of pollution is increasing up.” Gadkari added: "The electric vehicles and hydrogen-run vehicles should be promoted in order to cut the pollution. India spends each year Rs. 22 lakh crores on the fossil fuel.”

FlexFuel Vehicles and Govt Actions

The government has set a target to use 20% ethanol in petrol by 2025. This mix is termed FlexFuel. The Union Minister for Transport, Nitin Gadkari, had showcased the first FlexFuel car model produced by Toyota in the country some time back. He announced that this type of car would decrease pollution and reliance on fossils fuels.

Air Quality In Delhi

The air in Delhi is continuously deteriorating. On Tuesday, Delhi reached very poor levels of 412 AQI, but showed improvement by Wednesday morning. Gadkari had talked about Delhi’s air pollution before, in which he said that he rarely stays in Delhi, as he often books a return ticket as he might get poor air.
