The care-taker government in Bangladesh also wants good, cordial, and cooperative relations with the Indian government. This has been quoted by an economic advisor in the care-taker government, Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
Government: Government Position on Bilateral Relations
“The interim government is trying to avoid conflict with such a large nation as India,” Dr. Ahmed added. “We want to improve our relations and have economic stability,” he said. “It will be mutually beneficial for both of us,” he added.
Attempts for Mitigating Contemporary Tensions
According to Dr. Ahmed, Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus is also taking a personal initiative to calm down the situation and improve ties with India. Dr. Ahmed also explained that the protests against India that recently happened in Bangladesh have nothing to do with the Bangladeshi government.
Trade and Economic Cooperation
The situation will not influence trade between the two nations, said Dr. Ahmed. As part of ongoing economic co-operation, Bangladesh has decided to purchase 50,000 metric tons of rice imports from India.
Controversies Regarding Foreign Involvement
He also said that there are outside forces trying to disrupt the relations between Bangladesh and India. He reiterated the commitment of the interim government to developing relations with India and at the same time protecting the interests of the people of Bangladesh.
