There was a serious road accident reported in the state of Karnataka during the early hours of Thursday. The accident took place when a goods carrier collided with a private bus from Seabird Travels, which was headed to Gokarna from Bengaluru. The impact resulted in a fire that claimed nine lives.
Accident Information
- The incident happened at about 2:30 AM at Gorlattu Cross in National Highway-48 in the Chitradurga district.
- According to preliminary reports, the goods carrier violated the road divider and collided with an incoming bus.
- As a result of the collision, the bus caught fire.
- The fire also engulfed the goods carrier.
- There were 32 passengers in the bus when the accident happened.
Rescue and Emergency Response
- Police and emergency services came to the site of the accident in the Chitradurga and Tumakuru districts shortly after the occurrence. Rescue missions were conducted to assist in the survival of the affected and to retrieve the victims. Some of the victims escaped through the breaking of the bus windows.
- The bus driver and the co-driver got out of the bus immediately after the accident and remained alive. Injured passengers were rushed to hospitals in Sira and Hiriyur.
Possible Causes
The possible causes for the accident are believed to be overspeeding as well as the effects of the fog. An investigation is being conducted to determine the cause.

- The authorities have managed to establish the identities of some of the passengers that were in this bus. Some of these are Manjunath, Sandhya, Shashank, Dileep, Preethishwaran, V Bindu, K Kavitha, Anirudh Banerjee, Amrutha, Kalpana, Prajapati,
- Two girls, Gagana and Rakshita, were lucky enough to escape but were worried to know that their friend Rashmi had gone missing.
Current Status
Identification of the victims as well as investigations into the matter are still underway. The authorities continue to keep a close eye on the injured passengers undergoing treatment.
