Peace Talks Between Russia And Ukraine Show Progress

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has announced that both Russia and Ukraine are closer than ever to reaching a peace agreement that would lead to an end to the four-year war. But he also expressed that some issues are difficult and that the negotiations could fall through.

Meeting of Trump and Zelenskyi

President Trump has held negotiations with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in Florida over the weekend. The two leaders engaged in negotiations over the implementation of the “20-Point Peace Plan,” according to US time. The two leaders have addressed the media after the negotiations, confirming that the negotiation process is underway.

Primary Concerns in Negotiation

The leaders pointed out that there were still matters that had not been settled. They include the following: the fate of the Ukrainian territories that find themselves occupied by the Russians now, the security that will ensure the country does not get attacked by the Russians, and the fate of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant that finds itself occupied by the Russians.

Outlook on Peace Process

Trump said that it would soon be clear whether a peace agreement can be finalized. Zelenskyy thanked Trump and said Ukraine was ready to advance to peace.
