Trump Issues Warning To Latin American Countries

After the US army's seizure of Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro, US President Donald Trump gave several Latin American nations some warnings. He pointed out Mexico, Cuba, and Colombia to be the most concerned countries.

Accusations and Warnings by the US

Trump stated that Mexico, Cuba, and Colombia are engaged in drug-making and supplying the US market illegally. Moreover, he held that these places are the hiding spots of the criminal gangs. The US president warned that if the mentioned countries continue their current policies, they might be subjected to actions similar to what happened in Venezuela.

Additionally, Trump said that the US might resort to carrying out raids on drug production sites in those countries as part of its campaign against drug trafficking. According to him, the US would not hesitate to take hard measures if it deemed so.

US Authority's Comments

US Vice President JD Vance proclaimed that the US administration's primary goal is to curb the inflow of drugs to the country. He pointed out that once Venezuela is dealt with, the US might redirect its concentration towards the likes of Cuba and Colombia.

Latin American Nations' Response

Cuba, Colombia, and Mexico vehemently condemned the act of the US in seizing the Venezuelan president. They branded it as an act of aggression against Venezuela.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has said that his administration is taking measures to secure the area in light of the circumstances. He had also declared that military personnel are being stationed at the border with Venezuela. Moreover, he urged the Organization of American States as well as the United Nations to convene an emergency meeting on the matter.
