Russian Lawmaker Issues Warning After Ship Seizure
Prohibiting actions of the United States after the Russian flag ship was detained, a Russian lawmaker spoke up. Alexey Zhuravlev claimed that the USA is overly confident and that it expects no one to oppose its activity. He warned that the persistence in breaching international law might provoke retaliation. He went on to say that military actions might be considered by Russia in that case, including even attacking US Coast Guard vessels if necessary.
The US Operation’s Details
- The video was released by the US Coast Guard, in which the ship's seizure is depicted. The operation, as per the statements made, was a collaborative effort involving the US Department of Defense and the Coast Guard. The vessel that was seized has been identified as Marinera, a name changed from Bella-1.
- US government officials argued that this was a necessary step to ensure national security and support international law. The ship was taken about 190 miles south off the coast of Iceland.
Involvement of Foreign Countries and Additional Seizures
- During the operation, US Marines were brought in from a helicopter to board the ship and to capture the crew. Britain is said to have provided support for the mission. There are also rumors that Russian forces were nearby at that moment.
- In connection with the above, US forces also seized another vessel named Sofia. This ship was in the process of interception but not flying any national flag.
