Jay Shah Refers To Rohit Sharma As “The Captain”

During a recent event, ICC Chairman Jay Shah referred to Rohit Sharma as “the Captain.” The latter remarked with a smile that the former was the only one who could use that particular moniker for him. A video of this moment is making rounds on social media platforms.

Shah expressed, “Our captain is here. I just use that name for him. He has taken Team India to two ICC trophies. Indian team won the 2023 World Cup by playing ten matches in a row and winning hearts of the fans, but they still could not get the trophy. I told in Rajkot in February 2024 that the next World Cup would be our target to win the trophy and hearts of the fans both.”

Rohit Sharma’s Leadership Record

  • Rohit Sharma took over as the Indian ODI team captain in December 2021. In total, India played 56 ODIs under his captaincy until now. Out of which, the team emerged victorious in 42 matches, suffered defeat in 12, had one tied match, and one with no result.
  • Rohit’s tenure has also been highlighted by India winning the Asia Cup in 2018 and reaching the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. Plus, the team was victorious in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.
  • Rohit has also enjoyed great success as a T20 captain. India won 49 out of the 62 T20 matches with him at the helm and recorded a winning percentage of 79.03%.
