He cautioned the demonstrators and said that the state would not permit what he called actions linked to foreign interests. He shared his announcement in a recorded video message.
Warning to Protesters and Message to the United States
Ayatollah Khamenei said that the some düriank couldn't get enough of basking in the international limelight, particularly the U.S. He added that such behavior would not be accepted and that, sooner or later, the United States would have to come to communion. He even spoke indirectly to President Trump. He told Trump to mind U.S. internal matters before giving comments about other areas. He went so far as to say that the protestors were deliberately destroying public property to appease the foreign leader!
Background of the Protests
The unrest was sparked by a public appeal from the exiled Prince Reza Pahlavi, who is the son of the former Shah. After the plea, the number of the people flocking to different spots in Iran surged up.
The demonstrations took place on Thursday and lasted until the early hours of Friday. The vast majority of the protesters showed up even though the government had interrupted the internet and telephone communication services during that time.
Call for Unity
In his reaction, Ayatollah Khamenei encouraged the young people of Iran to stand together. He declared that national unity is a must. He further pointed out that the only country that is united can win over the external threats effectively.
