President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan made a brief state visit to India, during which he was personally received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Delhi airport. Their meeting started with a handshake and a short hug. They were then seen together traveling in the same car. The Ministry of External Affairs indicated that the UAE President’s visit to Delhi would be about two hours in total.
Leaders Hold Brief Discussions
Following the short meeting, Prime Minister Modi shared a post on social media. He remarked that the visit was a clear sign of the UAE President's high regard for the relationship between the two nations. The two leaders were expected to discuss their whole range of key topics during the visit. Areas of these discussions included trade, investment, defense cooperation, and energy partnerships.
Traditional Gifts Presented
Modi gifted Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan a huge wooden swing made by craftspeople from Gujarat. They talked for a little while while sitting on the swing together. A Kashmiri Pashmina shawl in a silver box made in Telangana was also given. Moreover, a Pashmina and saffron were sent for the UAE President’s mother.
Significance of the Visit
The visit occurred during a period of high regional and global tensions, which included the Gaza situation and strained relations between major players in the Middle East. This was the third time Mohammed bin Zayed had officially visited India as the UAE's president. The relations between India and the UAE have gone up the ladder in recent years, especially with the passing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in 2022.
