The United States has officially withdrew from the World Health Organization (WHO). The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) stated that the WHO did not manage the COVID-19 pandemic effectively and failed to implement necessary reforms.
Funding and Staff Changes
The US announced it will stop all funding to the WHO. US personnel are being recalled from all WHO offices worldwide. The country is also withdrawing from the organization’s technical committees and working groups.
Limited Future Cooperation
US health officials will cooperate with the WHO through limited capacity according to their statement. Since his second term began US President Trump repeatedly warned about the possibility of US withdrawal from the organization.
Outstanding Dues
- Reports from Bloomberg indicate that at the time of its withdrawal the US owed the WHO $260 million approximately Rs. 2,382 crore in unpaid dues.
