Trump Criticizes Canada Over Defense And Trade Decisions

US President Donald Trump criticized Canada for refusing to join the proposed defense system which he called the Golden Dome. America and Canada would have received better protection through the project according to him. He charged Canada with giving priority to its trade relations instead of addressing security issues.

Comments on Defense and China Relations

Trump stated on Truth Social that Canada should have backed the Golden Dome project. He said Canada preferred to strengthen business connections with China instead of developing defense partnerships. He warned that this decision would produce bad effects for Canada.

Trump made his comments after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke at the Davos forum about proposed tariffs that would affect Greenland. Trump canceled his previous invitation for Canada to join the Gaza Peace Council after this event.

Canada–China Trade Agreement

Prime Minister Carney made an announcement about a new trade agreement with China at the same moment. He explained that the agreement would create job opportunities for Canadian workers and help Canadian businesses. China agreed to decrease its tariffs on Canadian food products according to the terms of the agreement. Canada committed to decrease its existing tariffs which reached 100 percent on Chinese electric vehicles.

Social media users widely shared the image which received criticism from users. Many pointed out that penguins do not live in Greenland. The post resulted in online discussions which showed negative responses toward the White House.
