India secured a commanding victory in the second match of the T20 series against New Zealand which enabled them to establish a dominant lead in the series. The Suryakumar Yadav-led team successfully pursued the extensive target which they achieved with 28 balls left in the game.
New Zealand Sets a High Target
- After losing the toss, New Zealand batted first and scored 208 for 6 wickets in 20 overs. The opening batsmen began their innings with an aggressive approach which enabled them to score runs quickly during the powerplay. Devon Conway scored 19, while Tim Seifert made 24.
- Rachin Ravindra played an attacking innings and scored 44 runs off 26 balls. He struck two boundary hits and four sixes. Glenn Phillips scored 19 runs while Daryl Mitchell contributed 18 runs. After their middle-order batsmen failed to perform, New Zealand stood at 161 for 6 after 17 overs.

- Suryakumar remained unbeaten on 82 runs from 37 balls. He hit nine fours and four sixes. Shivam Dube supported him well and scored 36 not out from 18 balls. India reached the target of 209 in 15.2 overs, losing only three wickets.
- This chase became the fastest successful chase of a target above 200 runs in T20 international history.
