The former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh recommended that Team India should select five dedicated bowlers for their 2026 T20 World Cup team. He expressed this opinion during his commentary work at the second T20 match which took place in Raipur.
Five Bowlers Can Make a Difference
Harbhajan Singh explained that while batsmen have the ability to secure victories their function is secondary as bowlers remain essential for teams to achieve success in tournaments. He specifically mentioned spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy as essential members of the team. The two players achieved recent success by taking three wickets while allowing 70 runs to score under difficult circumstances. Kuldeep Yadav delivered a performance which resulted in two wickets and 35 runs while Varun Chakaravarthy secured one wicket for the same number of runs.
Recommended Bowling Lineup
Harbhajan identified five Indian bowlers who possess genuine wicket-taking abilities which include Jasprit Bumrah Arshdeep Singh Harshit Rana Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy. He explained that India already possesses enough batting strength to cover their needs until the 14th or 15th over so they do not require additional batsmen. He proposed that all international matches should require teams to create balanced rosters which should include only players capable of deciding match outcomes.
Focus on Match-Winners
Harbhajan emphasized that selection procedures need to establish complete transparency. The team should use home series to test different players but major tournaments should use established match-winning players. World Cup success depends on maintaining proper distribution between batting and bowling according to his statement.
