President Droupadi Murmu performed the flag unfurling ceremony at Kartavya Path at 10:30 AM. The military parade started immediately after the flag ceremony.
Parade Highlights
- The Apache and Prachand light helicopters demonstrated their exactness throughout their aerial displays. The cavalry unit showed up for their first time using battle equipment during the event. The European Union military unit sent a contingent to participate in the parade.
- The parade displayed India's progress in development through its various achievements and its military power and the main weaponry used during Operation Sindhu. The crowd of thousands gathered along the parade route to see the festive proceedings.
- The event featured European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as its main guests. Indian Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers, and other dignitaries attended the event.
Gallantry Awards Presentation
- President Murmu awarded the Ashoka Chakra to Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla. Shukla became the first Indian astronaut to travel to the International Space Station (ISS).
- The Kirti Chakra, which stands as India’s second most prestigious gallantry honor, was awarded to Group Captain Prashanth Balakrishnan Nair who has been chosen to participate in Gaganyaan, India’s upcoming manned space mission.
- The celebrations showed India's progress in space exploration and defense capabilities and national development while showcasing its cultural heritage and building international partnerships.
