US Senator Alleges India-US Trade Deal Blocked By Key Officials

The India-US trade agreement still faces ongoing uncertainty. US Senator Ted Cruz accused President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance and White House advisor Peter Navarro of obstructing the trade agreement. International media outlets have reported on an audio recording which shows Cruz making these statements.

Cruz Raises Concerns Over Tariff Strategy

The audio clip shows Cruz explaining that Trump used tariff threats as his main strategy but that this approach would damage the US economy. Cruz stated that he called the President to ask him to reconsider these tariffs. According to Cruz, Trump responded with strong displeasure. Cruz explained that he had warned Trump about the potential dangers which included rising prices for essential goods and the risk of impeachment but Trump chose to ignore his warning.

Differing US Officials’ Responses

US officials have provided conflicting statements about the trade agreement. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced that policy obstacles did not prevent the trade agreement with India from proceeding. The delay occurred because Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not yet conducted direct talks with President Trump. Lutnick showed respect for Modi while stating that a beneficial trade agreement would be signed shortly.
