AI Poses A Threat To White-Collar Jobs, Says Microsoft AI Chief

The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Office Employment Is Growing

Workplaces undergo substantial transformations because of artificial intelligence. According to Microsoft AI chief Mustafa Suleman, artificial intelligence will bring significant changes to white-collar occupations during the upcoming period. In an interview with the Financial Times, he expressed these opinions. According to his statement, office roles will undergo transformation through artificial intelligence, which will either take over work or create new employment opportunities.

AI Expansion Beyond Software Development

AI extends its impact to multiple fields according to Suleman who explained that AI serves as a vital component for software development work. He said it also affects lawyers, accountants, project managers, and marketing professionals. Computer-related responsibilities define the majority of these job positions. AI systems can now perform many of these tasks quickly and accurately. The organization will depend more on AI systems because they will perform work that human employees used to do.

Microsoft’s Focus on Advanced AI and AGI

Microsoft develops professional-grade artificial general intelligence (AGI) systems through its advanced AI project. Suleman defined AGI as a strong system, which performs all activities that human beings do throughout their daily lives. He expects that AI agents will handle organizational work, which will require three years for full development. The tools empower clients to execute standard operational tasks without needing human workers.

Automation Risk for Computer-Based Roles

Suleman reported that automation poses a threat to all computer-related jobs, which will affect work processes in different ways. He predicted that professional tasks would see AI upgrades within the next 12 to 18 months. Future AI models will have the ability to produce content, which includes podcasts and blog posts. He reported that organizations and users can design AI systems according to their specific organizational needs.

Microsoft’s Plan to Develop Independent AI Models

Suleman also said that Microsoft plans to reduce its reliance on OpenAI. He confirmed that Microsoft is developing its own AI models. According to him, new in-house AI models are expected to launch this year.
