- The government of Bangladesh will begin its new administration after the recent parliamentary elections. Yunus delivered a national address before his departure from office to discuss economic development among neighboring countries.
- Yunus discussed India through his speech which included information about the northeastern states known as the "Seven Sisters." He explained that the sea functions for Bangladesh as both a boundary element and an international trade access point. He claimed that the area together with Nepal and Bhutan and the Seven Sisters region has high economic value.
Northeastern States Receive Attention Through Special Mention
- Yunus did not use India's name yet he created a link between Bangladesh and the Seven Sisters sub-region. The term "Seven Sisters" refers to the Indian states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura.
- Yunus previously expressed the same opinions during his trip to China. At that time, he stated that the northeastern states rely on access to the sea through the region. He proposed that this situation brings about economic benefits. India strongly condemned those comments.
