AI Should Serve Humanity, Says PM Modi At India AI Impact Summit
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that artificial intelligence possesses extensive potential. He stated that AI operations need to stay within human control. He required AI systems to maintain three essential characteristics which include legal compliance and transparent operations and reviewability.
  • He delivered his address at the India AI Impact Summit which took place in New Delhi on Thursday. The summit demonstrates India's capacity for innovation while it supports the Make in India program. He explained that artificial intelligence plays a critical role in advancing human progress.

AI Has Transformative Power

  • The Prime Minister pointed out that India accounts for one-sixth of the total global population. He declared that the nation supports technological innovation. He demonstrated that young Indians display strong enthusiasm for artificial intelligence.
  • He declared that artificial intelligence possesses power to create fundamental changes. The system provides solutions when people use it in a responsible manner. The system leads to negative results when people misuse it. He emphasized that society needs to establish AI development needs through specific objectives. He declared that the primary question deals with AI capabilities for future developments. The key question is how AI can serve people today.
  • He stated that public welfare should serve as the primary standard which should guide AI development. He called for the establishment of an AI framework that centers on human needs. He clearly stated that artificial intelligence should not rule humans. Instead, humans should rule AI.

The 'Manav' Vision for AI Governance

Prime Minister Modi introduced the concept of a 'Manav' vision for artificial intelligence. He explained that this framework focuses on responsible and structured AI development.

The 'Manav' vision components include:

    • AI systems should operate with moral values and social responsibility.
  • A – Accountable
    • AI systems should function with transparency and clear accountability.
  • N – National Sovereignty
    • Data generated within a country should remain under that country’s control and jurisdiction.
  • A – Accessible and Inclusive
    • AI systems should be available to all sections of society. They should not function as monopolies.
  • V – Valid and Legitimate
    • AI systems should comply with legal frameworks. They should operate in a lawful and reliable manner.

The Prime Minister concluded that responsible AI development requires clear rules, ethical standards, and a human-centered approach.
