Iran Transfers Authority To Temporary Council After Khamenei’s Death
  • The Iranian government declared its executive leadership transformation. The IRNA news agency reports that the Supreme Leader has lost his governing powers which the temporary council now exercises. The decision follows reports that Supreme Ayatollah Ali Khamenei died during a US–Israeli military operation.
  • The state media confirmed that a three-member council will now control all state operations. The council consists of President Masoud Pezeshkian, the head of judiciary, and a jurist member who belongs to the Guardian Council. The body will carry out government functions between the present time and the selection of a new Supreme Leader.

The assembly functions as the organization which safeguards constitutional rights while it monitors all constitutional activities.

  • The attack resulted in the deaths of high ranking Iranian officials according to Iranian state media reports. The military commander Mahmoud Pakpour lost his life. The strikes killed Ali Shamkhani who served as Khamenei's senior adviser.
