India Condemns Airstrikes On Afghanistan At The United Nations

The border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have increased during the past few days. The situation has raised concern at the international level. India condemned the recent airstrikes which targeted Afghan territory.

India’s Statement at the UN

  • Parvataneni Harish represented India at the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the matter during an assembly session.
  • The United Nations Secretary-General already expressed his concern about civilian deaths which resulted from border conflicts according to him. Harish stressed that all nations need to comply with both international humanitarian law and international legal standards.
  • He repeated India’s backing of the Secretary-General’s request for international protection of civilians during combat situations.

Condemnation of the Airstrikes

Harish announced during his speech that India officially condemns the recent airstrikes which took place in Afghanistan. He explained that those actions constitute a breach of international regulations. He explained that such attacks violate Afghanistan's territorial integrity.

Continuing Clashes on the Border

  • Pakistani and Afghan forces continue their conflict despite multiple countries requesting both sides to maintain peace. Both nations reported active military operations throughout their border region.
  • Both sides reported that their soldiers successfully eliminated multiple enemy combatants during their border mission on Friday.

Suicide Attack Near the Border

  • A separate security incident occurred in North Waziristan which borders Afghanistan. A suicide bomb attack occurred in the region.
  • The initial attack reports state that one person died in the attack. The attack resulted in injuries to at least 18 individuals. The authorities continue to investigate the event.
