Accenture CEO Julie Sweet Says AI Is A Growth Engine, Not A Threat To Business

Accenture’s Chief Executive Officer Julie Sweet has dismissed fears that artificial intelligence will undermine the firm’s traditional consulting and IT-services business. Instead the leader has argued that Accenture is deliberately embracing AI-driven efficiencies as they allow the firm to create additional value for clients while providing it with new growth opportunities.

Speaking on Accenture’s fourth-quarter earnings call, Sweet described AI as a “tailwind” for the company. Accenture’s strategy is to use AI to increase its own productivity while helping businesses to adopt and deploy advanced AI technologies at scale.

Accenture is leaning into AI

According to Sweet, AI is already playing an important role in Accenture’s operations. The company is using AI to make service delivery and technology implementations faster and more efficient.

Instead of viewing these productivity gains as a threat, Accenture believes that it will be able to strengthen its relationship with customers by passing on some of the efficiencies to its clients while also expanding the scope of its AI-related services.

Sweet stated that Accenture’s approach was to “lean into” AI efficiencies as these represented a source of value for customers. At the same time, the approach of the company will be to continue investing in new capabilities and transition its workforce into areas of AI that are seeing the emergence of new demand.

More companies are starting advanced AI projects

  • Accenture is also witnessing an increase in the demand from businesses that are looking to embark on more advanced artificial intelligence initiatives. Around 100 new clients began their first advanced AI projects with Accenture during the fourth quarter, taking the total number of such enterprise engagements during the fiscal year to more than 400.
  • This shows that companies are moving from simply experimenting with generative AI to looking at how AI can be integrated into wider business operations.
  • Accenture expects this trend to create opportunities across consulting, managed services, technology implementation and AI transformation.

AI could improve productivity and profitability

  • One of the key ways that AI is transforming Accenture is through increased productivity. The company is seeing significant improvements in the way in which its employees deliver services through the use of AI internally, while also helping its customers to automate processes and implement new AI-powered systems.
  • Accenture reported that its people completed 46 million hours of training during fiscal 2026, while its AI and data workforce reached nearly 110,000 professionals.
  • Sweet has therefore argued that the opportunity created by AI could be larger than the efficiency-related impact it has on Accenture’s existing business.

Accenture sees AI demand as a long-term opportunity

Its strategy reflects a broader shift across the IT-services industry, with AI reducing the amount of time and effort that is necessary for some traditional technology tasks, but at the same time creating demand for AI consulting, implementation, data-management, automation and digital transformation.

Accenture believes that its large customer base, technology partnerships and global delivery capabilities will provide it with an advantage as businesses move from experimenting with AI to embarking on large-scale deployments. Its FY2025 annual report similarly described its strategy as becoming a leading AI-enabled partner for clients.

The company is therefore positioning AI not simply as another technology trend, but as a major part of its future business model.

What Julie Sweet’s AI strategy means

Julie Sweet’s comments highlight Accenture’s attempt to transform alongside the technology rather than compete against it. While AI could reduce demand for some traditional services and change workforce requirements, Accenture is betting that the demand for AI implementation and business transformation will create larger opportunities.
