YouTube is developing a new AI-based feature to improve search results. The feature is called "Ask YouTube" which will be integrated into the search bar.
Limited Access for Initial Users
At present the feature is available to a small group of YouTube Premium users who must be 18 years or older and based in the United States.
How the Feature Works
- Users can enter questions directly into the search bar. A new option "Ask YouTube" will appear. The selection of this option will display a full-page interface which includes a text input box.
- The system will show relevant videos based on the query. The system will generate text summaries through its AI capabilities. The summaries will include data from both long videos and YouTube Shorts content.
Improved Search Experience
Earlier YouTube search results displayed a complete list of videos. This feature enables users to receive text answers which they can read. The new system will enhance search speed while providing better search results to users.
Examples of Use
The system will provide videos with brief summaries when a user inquires about travel or coffee shops. The system may generate recommendations for locations to visit which depend on the user's inquiry.
Official Demonstration
YouTube has shared a demonstration video of this feature on its official blog.
