The TVK leaders stated that the Governor had told them that only the TVK would receive an invitation to attend the meeting. Lok Bhavan later issued a statement which declared that Vijay had failed to present the necessary support needed to establish a government. The statement indicated that the Governor did not intend to perform the oath of office ceremony at that time.
The Governor delayed his scheduled trip to Kerala because he needed to keep discussing the matter. The Governor-in-charge of Tamil Nadu currently holds the position of Arlekar.
The discussion centers around available legal choices
- Vijay organized an extensive meeting with legal professionals and leading members of his political party after the Governor provided his response. The discussions focused on deciding whether the party should file its case at the Madras High Court or the Supreme Court to contest the government's formation process.
- Some party members believe that they will need to get legal help when the decision process continues to take more time.
- E. Imran from Sholinganallur T.V.K. MLA sent a letter to the Governor which explained that his party would pursue court action if the government failed to address their concerns.
- Legal experts have presented various viewpoints regarding the situation. The TVK received advice to request new elections if it fails to obtain sufficient backing. Some people think that the Governor should permit the main political party to make the initial attempt at establishing the government.
- M. Velmurugan, who serves on the Madras High Court Bar Council, requested the Governor to officially summon Vijay for his Chief Minister oath-taking ceremony.
Smaller Parties Weigh Their Position
- The TVK has increased efforts to gain support from smaller parties. The leaders of Vijay and his senior team met with the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India during their meeting after returning from Raj Bhavan.
- The parties conducted their meeting with DMK leader Stalin to assess the ongoing political status.
- CPI State Secretary Veerapandian later said that the party had not yet made a final decision regarding support for the TVK. He said that the party was still conducting its internal discussions.
- VCK leader Thirumavalavan said his party was reviewing Vijay’s proposal through its high-level committee. He said that after the party assessed all benefits and drawbacks it would declare its official position.
- The CPI and VCK together declared that the Governor should invite Vijay to establish his government.
- The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) which has one MLA also indicated that it could support the TVK if the DMK agrees. Current discussions indicate that the TVK has gained support from 113 seats which does not yet reach the required majority.
Protests and Security Changes
- TVK workers staged protests outside Lok Bhavan because they accused the Governor of violating public trust. The Congress party also announced plans to hold demonstrations.
- The government authorities canceled all arrangements for Vijay's upcoming swearing-in ceremony. The authorities suspended all activities at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium when uncertainty about government formation increased.
- The authorities canceled plans to construct a helipad near Vijay's house which would serve official travel purposes.
- Vijay told the authorities that he no longer needed the special convoy which they had assigned to him. The police department removed all convoy vehicles and extra security personnel from his home.
- The reports said that the Governor requested the Director General of Police to explain the previous choice regarding the special security measures.
Stalin Signals Temporary Cooperation
- DMK chief Stalin said his party does not want to create unnecessary instability during the government formation process.
- He stated that the DMK would wait for Vijay to form the government and would avoid causing political trouble for six months if the TVK takes office.
- Stalin also said that welfare programs introduced during the DMK government should continue. Referring to financial assistance schemes for women, he questioned whether the TVK’s promise of providing Rs. 2,500 per month would be financially practical.
- At the same time, political observers continue to discuss the possibility of a future understanding between the DMK and AIADMK. However, neither party has officially commented on such speculation.
