Why the Original NEET UG Exam Was Cancelled
The earlier NEET UG exam happened on May 3. Shortly after it ended, allegations surfaced that the question paper was leaked in some regions, before the test.
Following these claims, NTA cancelled the examination. The decision affected nearly 2.3 million candidates who had applied for admission to MBBS, BDS and other medical courses.
Authorities later began investigating whether parts of the question paper had been shared illegally before the exam.
Scale of the NEET UG Examination across India
NEET UG remains one of the largest entrance examinations in the country. This year’s exam was conducted in 551 cities across India, and 14 international locations.
The test serves as the doorway for admission into undergraduate medical and allied health science programs at government and private institutions.
Because of the exam’s overall scale, the cancellation created uncertainty for students and families across several states.
CBI Investigation into the Paper Leak continues
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is continuing its inquiry into the alleged paper leak case. Several accused persons have already been arrested and then questioned by investigators.
The case first drew attention in Sikar, Rajasthan, investigators later reviewed reports that chemistry questions from the exam had appeared earlier in a circulated “guess paper” .
According to reports , around 120 chemistry questions seemed to match those from the examination. Officials also pointed out similarities in both the sequence of questions and the order of answer options.
These findings made the suspicions feel stronger that the paper may have been leaked before the examination date.
How the alleged leak Spread across states
Police suspect that the question paper may have originated from Nashik in Maharashtra before reaching other parts of the country.
Investigators believe the paper was passed along in states including:
- Rajasthan
- Haryana
- Jammu and Kashmir
- Kerala
Reports also suggest that some students were charged up to ₹5 lakh for access to the leaked material.
The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities have not yet released final conclusions regarding the full network involved.
