When marketing Dune (2021), Villeneuve revealed his intention of developing Dune Messiah if the "Dune" franchise proves itself commercially profitable and later mentioned that this film would be the last movie he'd make in this franchise. Soon after receiving acclaim for Dune: Part Two, the movie was confirmed in development and was given a December 2026 release date by Warner Bros. Pictures. As casting news spread throughout the month of March, production commenced in July 2025 and ended in November, filming in Hungary and the United Arab Emirates. For music, the composer Hans Zimmer reprised his role from previous parts of the franchise.

'Dune: Part Three' will hit theaters on December 18, 2026, in the US and Canada.
