India Vs Afghanistan Test Match: Manav Suthar Stars As India Tightens Grip

India Vs Afghanistan Test Match: Manav Suthar Stars As India Tightens Grip

India really took hold of the India vs Afghanistan Test pretty quickly after getting Afghanistan out for 152 in their first innings, like it was almost instant really. From there the hosts built a huge 412 run lead and then they also pressed the advantage by enforcing the follow-on. One name that kept coming up was debutant spinner Manav Suthar, he snapped up six wickets and basically helped trigger Afghanistan’s collapse, bit by bit.

India Strengthens Its Position in the Test Match

India came into Day 3 sitting very comfortably after declaring at 564/8. Afghanistan did start their reply at 113/5, but somehow they never managed to string together anything that looked like a real partnership, not in any meaningful way.

The Indian bowling side stayed on them throughout the session. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals, so Afghanistan couldn’t really squeeze the deficit down. In the end the innings folded at 152, and that left India in an even stronger place.

Manav Suthar Delivers a Memorable Debut Performance

  • Manav Suthar made an immediate impact in his debut Test innings, you could feel it early. The left-arm spinner ended with 6/33 and he troubled Afghanistan’s batters with a pretty steady mix of accuracy and control.
  • That six-wicket haul was clearly the standout moment. Suthar’s spell let India move through the lower order fast, and it also stopped Afghanistan from clawing back any momentum after they lost early wickets.
  • Prasidh Krishna chipped in too with three wickets, while Washington Sundar added one more to finish things off.

Afghanistan Struggles After Rahmat Shah’s Resistance

  • Afghanistan’s batting unit struggled to handle India’s bowlers. A lot of batters went cheaply, and once that started, it was hard to build something substantial, like a proper recovery plan.
  • Rahmat Shah was the main exception though. He played with grit, scoring 60 runs off 135 balls. His fifty did offer some resistance and it helped Afghanistan cross the 150 mark.
  • The innings also carried some historical weight, as Rahmat Shah ended up being the first Afghan batter to notch a Test fifty vs India, kinda neat right.

A little moment of history for the young spinner

Suthar’s showing put him into a pretty small circle of Indian bowlers. He ended up becoming just the second Indian bowler to grab a five wicket haul in his debut Test innings, and that’s not a minor thing.

The last time an Indian bowler did something like this was Amit Mishra. He took 5/71 against Australia in 2008. Then, with six wickets taken, Suthar added his own name to that rare kind of list, and honestly it kind of set the tone for his Test career in a memorable way.

India turns the screw with the follow-on

With a lead of 412 runs, India decided to enforce the follow-on. The call basically showed how completely the side was controlling the contest.

By the lunch break, Afghanistan had already moved to 18/0 in their second innings. Sediqullah Atal was still there unbeaten on 16 , while Abdul Malik was not out on 2.

So now Afghanistan has a hard task ahead just to avoid defeat, meanwhile India stays in a strong spot and can push for victory without rushing too much.
