'Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum' is an upcoming fantasy film by director Andy Serkis, writer Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Phoebe Gittins, and Arty Papageorgiou and based on the characters of J. R. R. Tolkien. A prequel to producer Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy of movies (2001–2003) and The Hobbit films (2012–2014), it tells about Strider's hunt for Gollum before and during The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001). Serkis will play Gollum alongside Ian McKellen, Kate Winslet, Jamie Dornan (Strider), Leo Woodall, Lee Pace, Elijah Wood, and Anya Taylor-Joy.

The development of new films featuring characters from the appendices of Tolkien's novel The Lord of the Rings (1954-1955) was announced in February 2023, with Jackson, Walsh, and Boyens being producers of the films once again. In October, they asked Serkis who played Gollum in the trilogies and directed second unit of Hobbit films to direct and star in a new movie. The announcement about his involvement and the title of the film came in May 2024 at the time when it was still being written. Pre-production began in September 2025 in Wellington, New Zealand, where the previous films were filmed, with some cast and crew returning from the trilogies. Additional casting happened throughout early 2026, and filming is currently happening from July to October.

Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is set to be released in theaters in the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures on 17 December 2027.
