India Beat Afghanistan By Seven Wickets To Seal T20I Series

India put down another commanding display against Afghanistan, winning the second T20I by 7 wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. The win gave India an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three -match T20I series ahead of the final match.

Sanju Samson Shines as India Post Big Chase

Chasing Afghanistan's 160 run target, India posted 163 for three in a commanding 14.5 overs. Sanju Samson was the star of the show in the run chase, smashing a quick 57 of only 22 balls. His aggressive batting enabled India to post a flying start, putting Afghanistan on the back foot from the word go.

Abhishek Sharma continued his good form, scoring 39 runs from 19 balls as the opening pair added 88 runs to take India to 82 runs during the powerplay.

Although Afghanistan managed to take three wickets in the chase, India remained in firm control. Rashid Khan accounted for all 3 Indian wickets, but the damage was already done by the explosive Indian top order.

Afghanistan Post 159 Runs

Earlier, Afghanistan were restricted to 159 for eight after being sent in to bat. Ibrahim Zadran and Rashid Khan made good contributions, but India's bowlers regularly picked up wickets and kept Afghanistan below the 160-run mark.

Nitish Kumar Reddy was particularly effective with the ball, picking up three wickets as India ensured that Afghanistan didn't post a big total.

Afghanistan's innings failed to gain the momentum required to test India's strong batting line-up. India's bowlers maintained pressure throughout the innings and ensured that the target remained manageable.

India Secure Series Win

With this seven-wicket win, India have won the first two matches of the three -match T20I series and secured the series with one match remaining. India also won the opening T20I by seven wickets, meaning the first two matches were one-sided affairs.

The third and final T20I is slated for September 17, giving India an opportunity to finish the series with a clean sweep.

For Afghanistan, the final match will be an opportunity to end the series with a victory, while India will look to maintain their momentum ahead of their upcoming assignments.
