Cyclone Murasu Update: Severe Cyclonic Storm Makes Landfall In Andhra Pradesh, Heavy Rain And Strong Winds Cause Damage

Severe cyclonic storm Murasu hit the coastal region of Andhra Pradesh in the early morning of November 3, 2026. This has caused heavy rains and high-speed winds across several districts in coastal Andhra Pradesh.

The cyclone struck the area between Nellore and Narsapur, near Ongole, causing high weather conditions. The cyclone hit between 3.30 am and 5.30 am with sustained winds of 100-110 kmph and gusts up to 120 kmph.

Cyclone Murasu Causes Heavy Rains in Andhra Pradesh

Prakasam, Bapatla, Guntur, Palnadu and surrounding areas in coastal Andhra Pradesh saw heavy rains and high-speed winds.

This has caused flooding in low lying areas and uprooting of trees and electrical poles due to high-speed winds. In some areas power and communication services have been impacted.

IMD Issues Weather Warning for Cyclone

The IMD has been tracking the cyclone using Doppler weather radar. After hitting land, it will begin to weaken and become a cyclonic storm and then a deep depression.

There will be heavy to very heavy rains in some areas of coastal Andhra Pradesh. People living in at-risk and low lying areas should take caution.

Farmers Concerned About Crop Damage

Farmers are concerned as heavy rains may damage crops. Flooding and high-speed winds may cause issues to crops, horticulture and farming in coastal areas.

Once the weather improves, officials are expected to look at how much damage there has been to farms. Farmers should take the necessary precautions to protect their produce and farming equipment where possible.

Transport Services Impacted

High weather conditions have impacted transport services. Trees have fallen, electrical damage has occurred and roads are flooded.

Precautions have been put in place to try to keep people safe. Fishermen have also been advised to avoid going out to sea.

Andhra Pradesh Officials Monitoring Situation

  • Officials in Andhra Pradesh and disaster management are monitoring the situation and putting emergency measures in place. People should avoid travelling if not necessary, avoid flooded roads and coastal areas and follow the instructions given by local officials.
  • Murasu is the second strong cyclone to hit the area in a short space of time after Cyclone Arnab. This has caused concern for damage to farming, infrastructure and coastal areas.
  • As the cyclone begins to weaken, it is most important to ensure people's safety, get essential services back up and run an assessment on the damage.
